Movies and books

Well, then...I've got a few "reviews" to add to my list of things read and watched...

First, I finished "Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About" (the novel, not the website). Not a bad book, but clearly Mil's first novel. The set-piece scenes with Ursula, the main character's German girlfriend (and clearly modelled on his own German girlfriend) are very, very funny...but the main arc and plot make very little sense whatsoever. And the book doesn't conclude or end so much as simply stop. That said, I found it very enjoyable and would definitely recommend it to others. I've now moved on to a re-read of Kim Stanley Robinson's "The Years of Rice and Salt," which I rather breezed through last time and have decided to go though again...this time more deliberately.

Last night, I (finally!) watched "Adaptation." Okay...true confession time. I've been meaning to see this movie forever. I had the DVD from Netflix for months and eventually returned it without watching it. Worse, the movie got recorded on my TiVo and sat on the hard drive for two months before I finally watched it last night. Naturally, I loved it. Can't explain why I had some sort of mental block around it.

And..."Starship Troopers 2" (which I jokingly have referred to as "The Legend of Rico's Gold") was unwatchable. What an absolute piece of garbage.
