Quiet thoughts on a Tuesday morning

Why did it take me so long before I discovered the magic of The Shins? Last night, I'm sitting in my room, listening to Chutes Too Narrow with the wind blowing and the house quiet. Seems almost perfect. My only complaint is that there's nobody around to share a smile and a nod with.

I started a new book yesterday - Jonathan Tropper's The Book of Joe. And I can already tell it's going to be a favorite of mine for a long time. Tropper writes so well and his voice is so familiar and recognizable, it feels like I'm reading something I wrote myself. Indeed - it makes me feel almost a little sad...this is a novel I wish -I- could have written. I already know where the book is headed, and yet...I can't pull away. Like knowing something awful is going to happen, but being powerless to stop it. Good stuff.

Also in the catagory of "what took me so long to find this"....Veronica Mars on UPN. What a funny, clever, edgy, well-acted, well-written and entertaining TV show. I'm hooked after just two episodes! Thank goodness UPN is doing a smart decision and re-airing the series from the beginning for idiots like me who came to it late.

Finally...

Guzman continues to be one of the hottest hitters on the Nats, who won in Pittsburgh last night, going 2 for 4 and scoring 2 Rs...including a monster 2 RBI double off the wall, putting the Nats in the lead (which they never lost) in the top of the 3rd inning. Only Guillen may be on a hotter streak than Guz right now, and that's arguable when you look at their numbers side-by-side. The Guz has upped his BA to .212, his highest since...the Milwaukee series at RFK back in mid-May. Not bad, Guz...keep up the good work!
